According to the IPRdaily WeChat official account, IPRdaily Chinese website and incoPat Innovation Index Research Center jointly released the 2020 Global Wireless Communication Network Technology Invention Patent Ranking (TOP100) today (19).
It is reported that the patents in the field of wireless communication networks in the ranking are defined by the IPC international patent classification number "H04W (wireless communication network)" of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization).
The ranking provides a statistical analysis of the number of invention patent applications in the field of global wireless communication networks that were disclosed from January 1 to October 31, 2020.
Among them, four Chinese companies are on the list of TOP10, Huawei ranks first with 8,607 patent applications, OPPO ranks third with 5,353 applications, ZTE and vivo occupy the eighth and ninth positions, with 1,628 and 1,518 patent applications respectively. In addition, nine Chinese companies including China Information and Communications Technology Group, Xiaomi, China Mobile, MediaTek, Hony Innovation, Unisoc, China Unicom, Alibaba (including Alipay), and Nantong Langheng Communication are in the top 30 of the list.
Huawei has always been at the forefront in terms of the number of patent applications. Previously, Ren Zhengfei said in an interview with foreign media that Huawei has collected a total of US$1.4 billion in patent fees and paid about US$6 billion in intellectual property fees over the years. In addition, Huawei invests about US$15-20 billion in research and development funds each year, and has nearly 80,000 to 90,000 R&D personnel. It is impossible for Huawei to lead the world by stealing.
OPPO's patent layout in recent years has also been remarkable. The global PCT patent application data for 2019 released by the World Intellectual Property Organization shows that OPPO ranked fifth among all PCT patent applicants in the world in 2019 with 1,927 PCT patent applications, even surpassing old technology companies such as LG.
The following is the TOP100 list:
From the perspective of countries and regions, the top 100 companies on the list mainly come from 11 countries, organizations or regions, with the United States accounting for 32%, China accounting for 32%, followed by Japan accounting for 15%, South Korea accounting for 7%, Germany and the Netherlands accounting for 4% respectively, France accounting for 2%, and Finland, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Canada each accounting for 1%.
