China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom jointly announced the launch of 5G commercial services

The official commercial use of 5G nationwide in China will add momentum to the 5G wave that has swept the world in the past few months. At present, more than 30 operators and more than 40 terminal manufacturers around the world have deployed 5G, and a large number of 5G mobile phones and 5G services have been launched. Focusing on the Chinese market, as of the end of September, the three basic telecommunications companies have opened more than 80,000 5G base stations across the country, and the number of 5G pre-order users has exceeded 10 million. With the joint support of industry chain partners, 5G commercial use will open up an extraordinary 5G experience for Chinese consumers with higher connection speeds and new traffic packages.

Qualcomm China Chairman Meng Pu expressed his warm congratulations on the commercialization of 5G and said: "Qualcomm is very pleased to join hands with industry chain partners to usher in the 5G era in the world's largest smartphone market. At present, we have launched a number of 5G smartphones with many partners, making the 5G experience within reach. Next, we will continue to work closely with the industry to bring more innovative applications enabled by 5G to more consumers and a wider range of industries."

Qualcomm has always insisted on collaboration to promote global unified standards, technology verification, interoperability testing, product empowerment, and ecosystem building, laying a solid foundation for 5G commercialization. In the past few years, Qualcomm has completed 5G interoperability testing with all major equipment manufacturers in the world, including ZTE, Huawei, Datang Mobile, Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung; Qualcomm has also supported dozens of global mobile operators including China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom to conduct 5G field trials, supporting operators to accelerate the commercial deployment of 5G networks.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Qualcomm and the industry, 5G has become the fastest-deployed mobile technology to date, and the network and terminals are almost ready at the same time, which is an unprecedented "engineering feat". Data shows that as of July 2019, there are more than 150 5G terminal designs using Qualcomm 5G solutions worldwide, and this number is still increasing. In early 2018, Qualcomm and China's leading terminal manufacturers jointly announced the "5G Pilot Program"; afterwards, with the support of Qualcomm, Chinese manufacturers seized the 5G opportunity and took the lead in launching 5G smartphones in overseas markets. For example, in May 2019, Xiaomi, OPPO, and OnePlus were the first to launch 5G phones in Europe.

In order to make 5G benefit more consumers faster, Qualcomm has promoted the expansion of 5G to multiple different levels of terminals through its 5G mobile platform product portfolio across the Snapdragon 8 series, 7 series and 6 series. Qualcomm also leads the transformation of 5G terminal design mode to system-level solutions through complete commercial chipset solutions integrating modems, RF transceivers and RF front-ends, helping terminal manufacturers reduce product development complexity and accelerate product time to market.

It can be said that in 2020, the key word for the development of 5G will be "scale expansion". In addition to smartphones, Qualcomm will continue to insist on R&D first, constantly break through the boundaries of technology, and expand new use cases through cross-industry integration innovation and collaboration to meet the new 5G needs of various vertical fields, including automobiles, mobile PCs, XR and industrial Internet of Things.

The commercial deployment of 5G is gaining momentum, and the industry's expectations for the economic growth opportunities that 5G will bring are rising. The latest research from IHS shows that by 2035, the economic value created by 5G will reach $13.2 trillion, an increase of $1 trillion from previous forecasts. 5G is the opening song of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, and it will be an innovation platform for the next decade.
