In recent years, the overall sales volume of the smartphone market has continued to decline, and the industry winter has arrived. As a traditional industry, PC has also had a hard time in recent years. According to the latest data released by IDC, global PC sales fell by 4.6% in the first quarter of 2019.
The top six manufacturers in the first quarter were Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple, Asus and Acer. Lenovo's PC shipments reached 13.196 million units, taking a 22.5% market share, ranking first in the world; HP followed closely behind with 12.826 million units and a market share of 21.9%; Dell, ranked third, was a little behind, with 9.989 million units and a market share of 17.6%. It can be seen that the sales of these three brands have increased compared with the same period last year, among which Lenovo had the largest increase, reaching 6.9%.
Apple ranked fourth in the global PC shipment rankings, with Mac sales of 3.977 million units, a year-on-year decline of 2.5%. However, Apple's market share has increased, mainly because its sales decline is smaller than the overall market sales change.
The decline in Mac computer sales is due to the overall environment on the one hand, and problems with the MacBook butterfly keyboard and overpricing on the other.
In addition, the shortage of some Intel processors will also affect PC sales. As a competitor, AMD has also begun to exert its strength and seize Intel's market share in some markets. Recently, new products using AMD platforms have begun to appear in large numbers in the notebook market.
Compared to smartphones, the PC industry has a much longer history and has long passed the era of rapid growth. At this stage, smartphones have largely squeezed out the living space of PCs, and mobile phones are also capable of performing audio and video entertainment tasks. Of course, whether PCs can still have such a large market depends mainly on its role in the field of productivity, which is still irreplaceable.
In terms of specific product categories, the sales of notebooks have steadily surpassed those of desktop products. Relatively speaking, notebooks are more portable, and the improvement of chip performance allows them to fully function in a limited size.
