The new service will accelerate workflows based on common scenario descriptions and the development of digital twins and.

NVIDIA today announced major progress in its Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD), which will expand the use of this universal 3D data exchange framework in robotics, industrial design and engineering, improving developers’ ability to build virtual worlds for the next wave of development.

With new generative AI based on OpenUSD and NVIDIA-accelerated development frameworks built on the NVIDIA Omniverse platform, more industries can now develop applications for visualizing industrial design and engineering projects, as well as environments for building the next generation of physical AI and robotics.

New content includes NVIDIA NIM microservices for AI models that generate OpenUSD language to answer user queries, generate OpenUSD code, apply materials to 3D objects, understand 3D space and physics to help speed up the development of digital twins, etc. Others include a new USD data format for robotics and industrial simulations, and various tools that allow users to transfer massive NVIDIA RTX full ray tracing data sets to Apple Vision Pro.

“The wave of generative AI for heavy industry has already arrived,” said Rev Lebaredian, vice president of Omniverse at NVIDIA. “Until recently, the primary users of the digital world have been creative industries, but now, with the enhanced capabilities and accessibility that NVIDIA NIM microservices brings to OpenUSD, every industry can create physics-based virtual worlds and digital twins to accelerate innovation while preparing for the next wave of AI technology in robotics.”
