As the global market competition landscape continues to change, the manufacturing industry is facing huge shocks and challenges. Faced with rapidly changing market demands and a future of surging labor costs, the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry has long become an inevitable choice. Facing the various needs of industrial enterprises in upgrading and transformation, FANUC, as a leader in the industrial robot industry, actively undertakes the mission of promoting technological change, continuously innovates in products, continues to deepen its industry, expands industry applications, and helps enterprises always stay one step ahead in the ever-changing market and fierce competition.
Recently, Shanghai FANUC held a grand launch of its new product "CRX—True 'Industrial' Collaborative Machine". The full range of CRX "industrial" collaborative robots released this time have the four characteristics of stability, accuracy, ease and economy. They can provide users with safe, easy-to-use and reliable human-machine collaborative solutions for the needs of handling and assembling small parts.
In order to further understand the CRX full range of "industrial" collaborative robots and FANUC's product innovation concepts, Mr. Chen Xiaolong, head of the CRX product line and director of the strategic marketing department of Shanghai FANUC, accepted a media interview and shared how FANUC closely focuses on customer needs to develop products that are more in line with application and customer needs.
The following is a transcript of an interview with Mr. Chen Xiaolong, head of the CRX product line and director of the strategic marketing department of Shanghai FANUC:
Q1
What is the R&D idea behind the CRX full range of “industrial” collaborative robots?
Chen Xiaolong:
FANUC has three product development guidelines: high reliability, fault warning, and rapid maintenance. All product development is based on these three guidelines. The same is true for the development of the CRX series of "industrial" collaborative robots. At the same time, it also draws on the successful experience of FANUC industrial robots in decades of research and development, production, and large-scale application.
Q2
What are the outstanding advantages? How does it complement FANUC's existing product system?
Chen Xiaolong: First of all, we will improve the stability and reliability of the collaborative robot based on its safety and ease of use. We hope that this product can meet the needs of industrial customers who have high requirements for the reliability of collaborative robots.
For FANUC's entire robot product system, this is a collaborative robot solution we provide for industrial users. We hope that this product can not only meet customers' demand for collaborative robots with higher requirements for space, safety, and flexibility, but also provide customers with a highly reliable collaborative robot product.
Q3
How does FANUC understand the pain points of the industry and explore differentiated needs? What ingenious designs have been made to make the products more suitable for industrial production environments?
Chen Xiaolong: With the rapid expansion of collaborative robots in different fields, we have seen many novel commercial applications, such as coffee and milk tea making, and the market for physical therapy and massage. However, we believe that there is still room for improvement in the adaptation requirements of collaborative robots for the industrial manufacturing field, such as high reliability, high protection, and some special applications.
Based on FANUC's decades of experience in serving industrial customers, we developed this product to provide industrial customers with a collaborative robot product that truly meets their application scenario needs. Through the unique servo motor + reducer mechanical structure, it can effectively improve the rigidity of the body, long-term operating reliability and high protection against the surrounding environment. Combined with FANUC's experience in the development of industrial robots in various application scenarios, it can meet the application needs of various manufacturers.
Q4
Which manufacturing sub-sectors are the CRX series "industrial" collaborative robots targeting? What factors are considered when selecting a sub-sector?
Chen Xiaolong: The goal of the CRX series "industrial" collaborative robots is "industry". This "industry" has two meanings:
First, the product is mainly aimed at existing industrial manufacturing customers, meeting the needs of high protection and high reliability in industrial manufacturing scenarios. For example, in the process of assembly and screw tightening, the mechanical body can maintain long-term rigidity and precision; in the machine tool loading and unloading environment, the body can effectively protect the machine tool oil mist and water vapor environment; in welding factories, it can adapt to different welding process equipment and provide sufficient protection against welding dust and electromagnetic interference of welding power supply;
The second is the demand for other "industrial" scenarios, such as application scenarios that require high reliability, high performance, and high environmental requirements. As a high-quality product, we hope that the CRX series "industrial" collaborative robot can bring customers a long-term and stable production and use experience, allowing users to optimize costs throughout the product life cycle.
Q5
You mentioned the optimal cost of the entire product life cycle. Could you please elaborate on this?
Chen Xiaolong: Product life cycle costs include one-time investment costs and usage costs. One-time investment costs are easy to understand. Usage costs include: labor and expenses for daily maintenance management, repair costs for equipment failures, and costs of production line shutdowns.
The CRX series "industrial" collaborative robots have been optimized for maximum cost of use.
First: If the use requirements in the manual are met, the CRX series can be used maintenance-free for 8 years, and there is no need to replace traditional lubricating grease;
Second: The CRX series uses a non-integrated drive joint module. When the mechanical body fails, only the faulty unit needs to be replaced, such as a separate servo motor, a separate reducer, etc., which greatly reduces the subsequent maintenance costs. Of course, based on the well-known product quality of FANUC products, the possibility of failure is also very small.
Q6
What does the launch of a full range of "industrial" collaborative robots mean to FANUC? What are the expectations for this product?
Chen Xiaolong: We hope to provide customers in the existing industrial manufacturing field with a comprehensive collaborative robot solution through the CRX series of "industrial" collaborative robots. At the same time, we also expect the CRX series to serve as a quality benchmark in the collaborative robot market. This product, like our traditional industrial robots, will gain an excellent market reputation in terms of product quality and after-sales service.
