On October 25 , Honeycomb Energy held a ceremony in Jiading District, Shanghai, announcing the official completion of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Doctor Octopus Intelligent Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Doctor Octopus").
At the beginning of its establishment, Honeycomb Energy began to lay out the intelligent manufacturing sector and successfully incubated Doctor Octopus in early 2022. The latter is positioned as a provider of core systems for intelligent control and intelligent manufacturing. It is divided into two major business sectors: hardware and software. The hardware mainly lays out the three core businesses of intelligent execution, intelligent sensing, and intelligent control. The software mainly lays out edge computing and industrial cloud operating systems, serving new energy vehicle networking, energy storage grid-load energy storage interconnection, and automated production lines and industrial information interconnection between group-type multi-factories.
Dr. Li Yihui, CIO of Honeycomb Energy and CEO of Doctor Octopus , said: "We use AI algorithms and industrial control intelligent hardware to give equipment state perception, edge computing, closed-loop control and adaptive execution capabilities. In a nutshell, we are the brain of the equipment, the center of the production line, and the soul of the factory. Doctor Octopus' mission is to create an octopus-shaped industrial operating system to make machines smarter. "
At the event, Dr. Octopus released a series of newly developed software and hardware products, mainly including Dr. Octopus Industrial OS ; smart hardware mainly includes core control line controller, visual perception hardware event camera, motion control hardware servo controller; software products are mainly AI algorithm platforms; solutions and industry kits mainly include X-ray battery cell group detection, top cover welding defect detection, sealing nail welding defect detection, as well as large base, large closed loop, full process, full cloud MES kit for the lithium battery industry.
At the ceremony, Honeycomb Energy, Doctor Octopus and Honeywell signed a tripartite strategic cooperation agreement, jointly committed to promoting the transformation and upgrading of the lithium battery industry to intelligent manufacturing.
In fact, as early as August this year , Honeycomb Energy and Honeywell launched an industrial Internet project cooperation, and the two parties jointly built a digital factory for Honeycomb Energy. This tripartite cooperation is a further deepening of the previous cooperation. According to the agreement, combining Honeycomb Energy's extensive scenario resources and rich industry experience, as well as Honeywell's deep technical accumulation and operation management system in the field of intelligent manufacturing, the three parties will jointly build a lighthouse factory in the lithium battery industry and jointly create a one-stop solution for intelligent manufacturing, in order to explore ways to promote the transformation and upgrading of intelligent manufacturing in the new energy industry, in order to lead and enable upstream and downstream enterprises and even the entire industry to achieve high-quality development.
Previously On Battery Day 2021 , Honeycomb Energy announced the AI smart manufacturing strategy, one of the four sub-strategies of the Lingfeng 600 strategy, and established the AI Smart Manufacturing Ecological Alliance - " AI Honeycomb Energy Alliance". The alliance will integrate the leading and unicorn resources in the AI and industrial fields to create an industrial ecosystem, serve the entire energy interconnection industry chain, and promote the upgrading and transformation of the industry chain's smart manufacturing model.
Dr. Octopus is targeting the field of AI intelligent manufacturing. It has launched R&D projects in AI hardware, AI algorithms and platforms. It has carried out PoC verification work at the Honeycomb Energy production base with AI Bee Energy Alliance companies , and has joined hands with three of the world's top 500 companies to build AI advanced laboratories and provide a technology incubation platform. It will provide makers with the most advanced test environment, general platform, computing power foundation and product verification base in the lithium battery industry, define market-worthy topics based on industry needs, and jointly complete the 0-1 transformation of products. The "AI Bee Energy Alliance" has signed more than 50 partners.
As the new energy industry is developing rapidly, the power battery industry faces many challenges such as quality and safety, cost reduction and efficiency improvement, and capacity delivery. The industry's consensus is that power batteries in the TWh era must move towards extreme manufacturing, which includes extreme efficiency, extreme quality, and extreme cost. In order to truly achieve extreme goals, the entire industry needs to introduce new ideas and new roles to truly promote the implementation of intelligent manufacturing of power batteries.
After years of technological accumulation, a number of Chinese power battery companies have become globally competitive. In order to further increase their global market share, leading battery companies including CATL, BYD, Sinovation, Guoxuan High-tech, Honeycomb Energy, and EVE Energy are accelerating production expansion. For example, the lithium battery production capacity plans of CATL , Sinovation, and Honeycomb Energy by 2025 have all exceeded 500GWh .
Therefore, intelligent manufacturing has become an important part of Honeycomb Energy's overall strategy. Honeycomb Energy is also the first company in the industry to propose an AI smart factory . In 2019 , it took the lead in the industry to announce the creation of an automotive-grade AI smart power battery factory.
Driven by the strong demand from battery companies, the demand for upstream lithium battery equipment in China will show a rapid growth trend, among which more and more robots will be introduced. GGII predicts that by 2025, the demand for industrial robots in the lithium battery industry is expected to exceed 67,000 units, with a compound growth rate of more than 35% from 2021 to 2025. By 2025, the demand for mobile robots in the lithium battery industry is expected to exceed 25,000 units, with a compound growth rate of more than 38% from 2021 to 2025.
