In recent years, Apple has tried to reduce the dependence of Apple Watch on the iPhone, and now the official has taken new actions.
According to media reports, in the watchOS 6 Developer Beta 2 version provided by Apple to developers, Apple Watch can be updated via OTA. When the system detects available updated firmware, it will be downloaded directly to Apple Watch, and the experience is similar to the upgrade method of iPhone and iPad.
It should be noted that Apple Watch users cannot completely get rid of their dependence on iPhone for the time being. Before OTA updates, they need to accept the license terms on the iPhone, and the outside world expects this to be only a temporary restriction.
Perhaps when the Public Beta version of watchOS 6 is released later (or possibly the official version in the fall), Apple Watch may completely remove its dependence on the iPhone and get updates and upgrades directly through the smartwatch itself.
In addition, the report also stated that Apple is expected to launch a new generation of Apple Watch at the autumn new product launch conference, named Apple Watch Series 5, which is worth looking forward to.
