The industrialization process of autonomous driving has taken another important step forward.
Recently, the L3 heavy truck jointly developed by Inceptio Technology and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. successfully completed the A-prototype acceptance. This is the first time in the field of autonomous driving trucks in China that an A-prototype has been completed during the L3 mass production development process, which is of symbolic significance for the autonomous driving freight logistics industry.
As time goes by, autonomous driving technology is becoming more and more mature, and people's expectations for the implementation of unmanned driving have begun to become calm and rational. Because regardless of the maturity of the technology, the legal and regulatory system and infrastructure supporting system for unmanned vehicles on the road are still being formulated or constructed, making it impossible for unmanned passenger cars to be on the road. The first to be implemented will be unmanned driving in specific commercial scenarios. The commercial
scenario of autonomous driving is implemented first, and the trunk logistics has a vast "blue ocean".
Yu Kai, the founder of Horizon, once pointed out in an interview that the real unmanned driving should be the first to B products to be implemented, and unmanned driving in certain scenarios can be realized in 2025, such as logistics operations in ports, docks and mines. At
a time when the implementation of unmanned passenger cars has become a distant prospect, the logistics industry with relatively simple scenarios and a market size of more than one trillion yuan has more opportunities. In the logistics scenario, trunk logistics has the largest overall capacity and relatively concentrated scenarios, making it an ideal landing scenario.
Ma Zheren, founder and CEO of Inceptio Technology, once said that trunk logistics is a blue ocean market with broad prospects. According to incomplete statistics, China has 6-8 million heavy trucks over 9.6 meters, and commercial vehicles may add up to 20 million. The inter-city logistics related to heavy trucks alone is a market of 4 trillion to 6 trillion yuan. Inceptio
Technology takes trunk logistics operations as its main landing scenario and is committed to promoting the establishment of an autonomous driving freight ecosystem through independent research and development of L3 and L4 level autonomous driving technologies.
The realization of the productization of autonomous driving trucks cannot be achieved by a single company alone, and it requires the integration of industrial chain resources. Judging from the current development trend, strong alliances and open cooperation have gradually become the mainstream trend.
Strong alliances to accelerate the mass production of autonomous driving trucks
Inceptio Technology is actively cooperating with top domestic and foreign autonomous driving technology suppliers such as chips, sensors, and high-precision maps, in order to achieve the goal of mass production in 2021. Inceptio Technology and Shanghai International Automobile City Automotive Innovation Port jointly initiated the establishment of the Trunk Logistics Joint Innovation Center in December 2018. Currently, there are 17 member units, including Sinotruk, FAW Jiefang, ZF, Horizon, NavInfo, etc. It is the most important industrial cooperation platform in the field of autonomous driving in China's trunk logistics.
Technically, since trunk logistics is mostly used in high-speed scenarios and vehicles run at high speeds, there are high requirements for the environmental perception range of the autonomous driving system. In
view of the high-precision and low-latency environmental perception requirements of autonomous driving, Inceptio Technology and Horizon, the underlying enabler of AI chips and solutions, reached a strategic cooperation in September 2019 to jointly promote the research and development and mass production of autonomous driving trucks. Horizon fully opens up AI chip and algorithm capabilities, actively responds to Inceptio Technology's customized needs in truck logistics autonomous driving, and helps Inceptio Technology's autonomous driving trucks to be smoothly developed and enter mass production.
In the successful acceptance of the A-type vehicle, Inceptio Technology was responsible for the development of the full-stack software and vehicle computing platform of the autonomous driving system, demonstrating the leading cooperation results achieved by Inceptio Technology with top domestic and foreign suppliers of chips, sensors, high-precision maps and other autonomous driving technologies, leading the productization of heavy-duty autonomous driving in China and even the world.
The development of autonomous driving is not achieved overnight, and currently more emphasis is placed on actual implementation. In the gradual development of unmanned driving, technology innovation companies, OEMs, and various suppliers in the industry chain work together to give full play to their respective advantages and build an industrial structure. Really large-scale and cost-competitive autonomous driving trucks may be mass-produced first.
