Bosch and Tsinghua University announced today that the Tsinghua University-Bosch Joint Research Center for Machine Learning has been officially established. The two parties will cooperate in the field of artificial intelligence for five years. "Cooperation with Tsinghua University, a world-renowned university, is another milestone for Bosch to promote the development of cutting-edge technologies in the field of artificial intelligence and accelerate the layout of industrial artificial intelligence applications." Professor Thomas Kropf, President of Bosch Central Research Institute, emphasized, "The advancement of artificial intelligence technology requires the joint efforts of the academic community. Therefore, Bosch is establishing cooperation with universities and industry leaders around the world, hoping to promote major breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence. The cooperation between Tsinghua University and Bosch Group will bring huge synergy effects to both parties."

Bosch will invest RMB 50 million to work with Tsinghua University to promote the research and development of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies in the industrial field. The two parties will conduct relevant research around machine learning, a core area of industrial artificial intelligence research and development and application, including basic theoretical research, the development of probabilistic programming platforms, and the application of artificial intelligence in intelligent manufacturing. In addition, Bosch will invest an additional RMB 5 million to establish the Bosch Artificial Intelligence Named Professor Fund to support the artificial intelligence research of professors in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, Academician Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University, expressed his gratitude to Bosch Group for its long-term strong support to Tsinghua. He said: "I am very happy to witness the signing of the cooperation agreement between Tsinghua University and Bosch Joint Research Center for Machine Learning and the donation agreement for Bosch Artificial Intelligence Named Professor. This is the first time in the history of Tsinghua University that a signing ceremony has been held in the form of a video conference. We are in the golden age of artificial intelligence. Machine learning is an important factor in promoting the development of artificial intelligence in fields such as image, speech and machine translation. Although machine learning research has made a lot of progress in recent years, it still faces many challenges. This requires further cooperation between academia and industry. The next goal of the cooperation between Tsinghua and Bosch is to achieve innovation in the basic theory and key technological breakthroughs of machine learning. I hope that the close cooperation between the two sides can jointly shape the future of mankind."

Bosch continues to invest in artificial intelligence research and development

Artificial intelligence technology is crucial to Bosch. By 2025, Bosch aims to have every product with artificial intelligence capabilities or use artificial intelligence technology in the development and production process. Professor Thomas Kropf said: "Bosch wants to become one of the world leaders in artificial intelligence innovation and is moving towards this goal."

Bosch has currently established seven AI research centers in Germany, the United States, India, Israel and China. Since its establishment, the Bosch AI Center has carried out more than 160 projects in a variety of fields, including mobile travel, industrial manufacturing, agriculture and smart homes. Bosch has about 1,000 AI experts worldwide. At the same time, Bosch is committed to collaborating with academia and industry on a global scale to meet challenges in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning and promote further development.

In the United States, Bosch has worked closely with Carnegie Mellon University and invested $8 million in artificial intelligence research. In addition, as one of the initiators of the "Cyber Valley" research alliance, Bosch will invest 100 million euros in the construction of an artificial intelligence park in Tübingen, Germany, which is expected to be put into use at the end of 2022. By then, about 700 experts in the park will conduct research on artificial intelligence applications. In terms of improving employee talent skills, Bosch plans to launch an artificial intelligence training program for nearly 20,000 employees in the next two years, mainly focusing on three types of employees: managers, engineers, and artificial intelligence developers. Bosch's recently released "AI Ethics Code" will also be part of the training, as a clear guideline to guide employees to create safe, reliable and explainable artificial intelligence products.

Tsinghua University's leading level of artificial intelligence

Tsinghua University's artificial intelligence research has a solid foundation and a leading position at home and abroad, forming its own characteristics in the fields of machine learning, information retrieval, natural language processing, etc. In terms of academic research, according to official CS Rankings, Tsinghua University's publication of high-level papers in the field of artificial intelligence in the past decade ranked second among the world's university artificial intelligence research institutions, and has won the best paper award in top international conferences and journals many times.
