Several American technology giants released their latest financial reports at the same time.
Google's parent company Alphabet's total revenue in the second quarter was US$38.944 billion, a year-on-year increase of 19%; net profit was US$9.947 billion, a year-on-year increase of 211%.
Such a significant increase in net profit is due to the one-time fine of US$5 billion imposed by the European Union last year.
The financial report shows that Google's advertising business has achieved nearly 20% growth, while its cloud service and hardware businesses have also performed well. Google CEO Pichai said that Google's cloud service annual revenue is about to reach 8 billion US dollars, and the number of employees will increase three times in the future; at the same time, the sales volume of the Pixel product line in the second quarter increased by more than 2 times year-on-year.
The other bets business, which represents various new explorations, had revenue of $162 million, up from $145 million in the same period last year. However, the loss further widened, with operating losses approaching $1 billion, up 35% year-on-year.
Google's financial report exceeded analysts' previous expectations, pushing its stock price up 9% after the market closed.
Let’s look at Intel .
The hardware giant's second-quarter revenue was US$16.505 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3%; net profit was US$4.179 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 17%.
According to the financial report, Intel's Client Computing Group's net revenue in the second quarter was $8.841 billion; the Data Center Group's revenue was $4.983 billion; the Internet of Things Group's revenue was $1.187 billion, of which Mobileye's revenue was $201 million. From the data, these pillar businesses did not show a significant increase, and even declined.
However, after the release of this financial report, Intel's after-hours stock price rose sharply by nearly 6%, because Intel's second quarter results and third quarter and full-year performance outlook exceeded Wall Street analysts' previous expectations.
Finally, let’s talk about Amazon .
Amazon's net sales in the second quarter were US$63.404 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20%; net profit was US$2.625 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4%.
In this financial report, net sales exceeded analysts' expectations, but earnings per share fell short of expectations, and Amazon's stock price fell nearly 2% after the market closed.
Amazon's net product sales in the second quarter were $35.856 billion, up from $31.864 billion in the same period last year; net service sales were $27.548 billion, up from $21.022 billion in the same period last year.
Among them, Amazon AWS cloud service's net sales in the second quarter were US$8.381 billion, a year-on-year increase of 37%; operating profit was US$2.121 billion, compared with US$1.642 billion in the same period last year.
