According to foreign media reports, Huawei requires Verizon, the largest operator in the United States, to pay licensing fees for more than 230 patents, with a total amount exceeding US$1 billion.
It is reported that Huawei proposed to "resolve the patent licensing fee issue" as early as February this year. These patents involve network equipment from more than 20 supplier companies of Verizon, including some major US technology companies. Of course, these companies will compensate Verizon.
These Huawei patents cover core network equipment, wired infrastructure and Internet of Things technology, and insiders said the patent licensing fees exceed US$1 billion.
Foreign media said that Verizon has reported the matter to US officials.
Previously in 2018, Verizon reached a cooperation with Huawei to sell Huawei mobile phones, but due to pressure from US officials, it and another US operator AT&T were forced to cancel their cooperation with Huawei.
Long ago, Huawei won a multi-billion dollar network equipment order from Verizon, but was forced to cancel the order due to official pressure.
Verizon Wireless was originally the second largest mobile operator in the United States. After acquiring Alltel from Atlantis Holdings LLC, Verizon Wireless had 83.7 million mobile users, surpassing AT&T Wireless to become the new leader in mobile communications in the United States.
