The voltage regulation value of the Zener diode [Copy link]

When the Zener diode is stabilizing the voltage, by observing its volt-ampere characteristic curve, shouldn't its voltage stabilization value be negative?

The voltage stabilizing characteristic of the voltage regulator is that it is reverse connected. When the reverse voltage does not reach the breakdown voltage, the voltage at both ends presents a voltage range with a small change! It plays the role of voltage stabilization output. Once the breakdown voltage is exceeded! The reverse leakage current accelerates and increases! The voltage regulator breaks down! The voltage stabilizing characteristic can be seen from the diode's volt-ampere characteristic diagram!  Details Published on 2019-6-22 08:11

"When the Zener diode is stabilizing the voltage, by observing its volt-ampere characteristic curve, shouldn't its stabilization value be negative?" When using the Zener diode, you have turned the Zener diode upside down, with the negative pole of the Zener diode (through a resistor, etc.) connected to the positive terminal of the power supply, and the positive pole of the Zener diode connected to the negative terminal of the power supply.

Positive or negative depends on your measurement reference point. For a 1.5V dry cell, if you define the positive electrode as the reference, that is, the 0 potential point, then the battery voltage is -1.5V, but the battery is still the original battery. In the same figure, the forward and reverse volt-ampere characteristics of the voltage regulator are expressed. According to the habit of the forward volt-ampere characteristic diagram of ordinary diodes, the negative electrode is used as the reference, so the Zener breakdown area is of course in the negative value area of the coordinate system.
