Recently, Great Wall Motors announced that its jointly developed RISC-V automotive-grade MCU chip, Bauhinia M100, has completed research and development and was successfully lit up.
Regarding this breakthrough, Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motors, said, "The Bauhinia M100 chip is not only the first automotive-grade chip developed in China based on the 'RISC-V' architecture, but also the first technical chip cultivated by Great Wall Motors. Relying on the open source architecture, it can avoid being restricted by European and American technologies while ensuring the possibility of architecture expansion."
It is understood that the design of Bauhinia M100 adopts a modular concept, the core is reconfigurable, and the 4-level pipeline design enables it to have faster processing speed and less time consumption, while facilitating future upgrades and expansions. In addition, Bauhinia M100 also meets the functional safety ASIL-B level requirements, supports national encryption, and complies with the ISO21434 network information security standard.

In recent years, with the rapid development of smart electric vehicles , the demand for automotive-grade chips has continued to increase significantly. As early as October 2021, Great Wall Motors formed a professional team dedicated to the research and development of power semiconductor technology, and in November 2022, it officially established a power semiconductor module packaging and testing company-Wuxi Xindong Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., focusing on the research and development and innovation of Si IGBT and SiC MOS.
In November 2023, the GFM platform 750V/820A IGBT power module independently developed by Innosilicon was successfully installed on the vehicle, realizing large-scale application in the main drive controller of new energy vehicles for the first time. In addition, Innosilicon has also signed cooperation agreements with Bosch Automotive Electronics, STMicroelectronics, etc. to better promote the steady development of Innosilicon's SiC business.
Great Wall Motors pointed out that the Bauhinia M100 that was lit up this time is not only an important achievement of Great Wall Motors' "hardware and software integration" intelligent strategy, but will also lay an important foundation for innovative applications such as future smart driving and smart cockpits.
