Recently, STMicroelectronics announced on its official Weibo that it will provide the latest third-generation 750V silicon carbide power MOSFET chips for BorgWarner ’s Viper power modules. BorgWarner will use this power module to design electric drive inverter platforms for Volvo and many future pure electric vehicles.

In order to give full play to the advantages of STMicroelectronics' SiC  MOSFET chips, STMicroelectronics and BorgWarner's technical teams worked closely to match STMicroelectronics' chips with BorgWarner's Viper power switches to maximize inverter performance and reduce the size of the inverter. The electric drive architecture reduces the size and improves economic efficiency.

Marco Monti, President of STMicroelectronics' Automotive and Discrete Products Group (ADG), said that the cooperation between STMicroelectronics and BorgWarner will help improve Volvo 's vehicle performance and cruising range, and will also expand SiC production capacity and supply to fully support global automotive and Industrial customers are transitioning towards electrification and efficiency.

It is reported that STMicroelectronics mass-produces STPOWER  SiC power chips in two front-end factories in Italy and Singapore, and conducts advanced packaging and testing in back-end manufacturing plants in Morocco and China. In October 2022, STMicroelectronics announced the expansion of its wide bandgap product production capacity and the establishment of a new comprehensive SiC substrate manufacturing plant in Catania, Italy. Catania is both the power semiconductor technology center of STMicroelectronics and the R&D and manufacturing base for silicon carbide.
