On September 4, 2023, Magna announced at the 2023 IAA press conference that it has begun producing an innovative Gen5 front camera module system for a European automobile manufacturer. In the next few years, this module system will be widely used in a variety of vehicle platforms and models in different regions. Magna leveraged its industry-leading camera expertise and technology, as well as global manufacturing processes, to develop scalable, one-piece front-facing camera modules that meet the needs of automakers.
The complete front camera system has a wide field of view, with a horizontal viewing angle of 120° and a vertical viewing angle of 48°. It can not only remotely sense obstacles more than 160 meters in front of the vehicle, but also detect objects on the side of the vehicle, such as traffic lights, emergency vehicles and sinks. Enter the vehicle. This camera has a resolution of up to 8 million pixels, a frame rate of 36 frames per second, and a full-color display. The microprocessor is expandable to perform sensor fusion with up to five radars.
"We are committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions and innovative technologies that provide safety for all vehicles and people on the road," said Sharath Reddy, senior vice president, Magna Electronic Systems. "We are launching a new generation of The front camera module system promotes the optimization of driving assistance functions by providing key functions to ensure that the driver is always involved in the driving process, providing detailed information on the road in real time, so that the driver can fully understand the surrounding environment. "
The new generation front camera module system has the following functions:
Memory Parking Assist (TPA) - a comfort automatic parking function. When you choose to use this function, the system will automatically park based on the previously learned "parking in" or "parking out" trajectory.
Environmental Information Perception (ECR) - Classifies the current road conditions ahead based on the humidity and snow cover of the road to facilitate automatic driving function control of the vehicle.
Monocular scene reconstruction (MSR) - capable of detecting the transition area from the driving area to the non-driving area. For example, transition areas from asphalt roads to grass, construction sites, etc.
Hazard Detection (HZD) – Static obstacles on the road can be detected in advance to avoid collisions.
