Lianxintong provides bidirectional V2G chips

Hangzhou City – August 2, 2023 – Hangzhou Lianxintong Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (Lianxintong), a smart charging communication chip design company, is paying attention to the SB 233 bill recently discussed in California, USA, and stated that its HomePlug GrrenPHY chip supports V2G (Vehicle- to-Grid, vehicle to grid) function. The bill introduced by the Senate would require all new electric vehicles sold in California to have two-way charging capabilities by 2030. The goal of the bill is to achieve clean energy and reduce pollution in California.

California has been a leader in the popularity of electric vehicles and clean energy policies. The state has set a goal of putting 5 million zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2030 and achieving 60% of electricity generation from renewable energy by 2030.

SB 233 passed the Senate vote, was approved by two House committees in July, and is currently being considered by a third committee. This is likely to be the world's first bill mandating electric vehicles to have V2G capabilities.

Once the SB 233 bill is passed and implemented, it will clearly regulate the time point for the mandatory promotion of V2G. That is, starting from 2030, all new models of electric vehicle companies must have V2G functions!

Unicentcom HomePlug GreenPHY SECC chip MSE1021+MSEX24-i and EVCC chip MSE1022+MSEX25-i support ISO 15118-20 bidirectional power transfer (BPT, Bidirectional Power Transfer), which is the international standard for V2G communications. With bidirectional charging, EV owners can choose to use the electricity stored in their EVs when electricity prices are high and recharge their EVs when electricity prices are low; and can sell the electricity to the grid or use it to power their homes.

BPT is a feature of ISO 15118-20 "Second Generation Network Layer and Application Layer Requirements" released in April 2022. The standard improves on its predecessor, ISO 15118-2, to include AC and DC charging, plug-and-play and smart charging, and also specifies bidirectional and other innovative charging features.
