The device is AEC-Q102 qualified, with industry-leading switching speed and open-circuit output voltage (8.5V)
MALVERN, Pennsylvania, USA, Shanghai, China — June 7, 2023 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. recently announced the launch of a new industry-leading automotive-grade photovoltaic MOSFET driver, the VOMDA1271, which uses a space-saving SOP-4 package with integrated shutdown circuitry . The Vishay Semiconductors VOMDA1271 is designed to improve the performance of automotive applications while increasing design flexibility and reducing costs, with industry-leading switching speeds and open-circuit output voltages.
The optocoupler integrated shutdown circuit released recently has a typical shutdown time of 0.7ms, which is advanced in the SOP-4 small package MOSFET driver. In addition, the VOMDA127 has a turn-on time of 0.05ms, which is twice as fast as the nearest competitor. As an excellent driver in this package specification, its isolation voltage and typical open-circuit output voltage reach 3750V and 8.5V respectively, which is suitable for various MOSFET drive applications.
The device is AEC-Q102 qualified for use in pre-charging circuits, wall chargers, and battery management systems (BMS) for electric (EV) and hybrid (HEV) vehicles. To generate the higher voltages required to drive IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs in these applications, two VOMDA1271 optocouplers can be used in series. In addition, with this new driver, designers can replace traditional electromechanical relays with custom solid-state relays when developing next-generation vehicles.
The optically isolated VOMDA1271 uses an AIGaAs infrared LED (IRLED), whose emitted light is absorbed by the photovoltaic grid array to generate a MOSFET turn-on voltage. This structure does not require an external power supply, thus simplifying the design and reducing costs. The device can be driven by the GPIO pin of the microcontroller, further improving design flexibility. The new optocoupler is RoHS-compliant and Vishay green-compliant and halogen-free.
Samples and production quantities of the VOMDA1271 are available now, with lead times of eight weeks.
