▲When off-road vehicles face rugged terrain, they cannot clearly grasp the road conditions due to the height of the vehicle. Therefore, many models with off-road capabilities will have ground-based off-road image assistance systems.

When facing off-road/rough terrain, the height of SUVs makes it difficult for drivers to understand the road conditions, so many models are equipped with off-road image assistance systems, such as Defender and   Bronco  . Toyota 's latest patent for off-road image assistance system (Multi  -   Terrain Monitor) has also been exposed. This technology can not only show the road conditions, but also project the image directly onto the entire interior, making the interior of the car seem to have a perspective view.

▲Toyota's newly applied patent for off-road image assistance shows that this technology synthesizes the surrounding images through the lens and can project them into the car, allowing the center console and door panels to be displayed, making the interior of the car seem to have a perspective effect.

According to CarBuzz, Toyota's off-road image assistance patent captures the periphery of the vehicle through a lens and projects the image into the car through a computing system. The entire projection range covers the center console, door panels and HUD head-up display, allowing the driver to see the road conditions below clearly in the car. Toyota has also applied for this patent to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

However, although this technology looks very cool and can effectively avoid scratching the chassis and provide drivers with a grasp of road conditions, there are still many curious aspects at this stage, such as how to project these images on the interior/center console, how the system calculates and determines the switching timing, and the most critical mass production cost, which make it still unknown whether this technology can become a reality.

▲However, the details of this technology are still unclear, and the cost will be the key to whether it can be commercially available in the future.
