Visteon Corporation, a mobility technology company and automotive display solutions provider, launched an image processing algorithm, TrueColor Image Enhancement, which can maintain and improve the image quality of cockpit displays under various ambient light conditions. By using this algorithm, automotive displays can meet the image quality expectations of technology users.

Harsh sunlight conditions in the automotive environment can make it difficult for drivers and passengers to see the contents of the cockpit display. Visteon's TrueColor effectively overcomes brightness and glare to maintain the readability of safety information. TrueColor Image Enhancement is a stand-alone, hardware/software-based in-vehicle display solution.

The ISO15008 standard specifies minimum legibility requirements for characters, fonts, and symbols displayed on vehicle displays. Screen legibility typically deteriorates under bright ambient sunlight conditions with strong reflections. But TrueColor can better meet this standard, improving the user experience and increasing content visibility.

Visteon's TrueColor is a dynamic algorithmic solution that improves readability across the display and is a proprietary integration of hardware and software components. TrueColor improves image quality without introducing unwanted color shifts or image artifacts. Safety indicators, brand designs and fine details remain clearly visible under strong sunlight. In addition, TrueColor displays require less power than other technologies.

“Keeping cockpit displays legible in bright sunlight conditions is a particular challenge. Drivers expect consistently high image quality from their phones and digital devices, and our TrueColor solution keeps displays readable in bright sunlight conditions,” said Jim Carpenter, senior director of display engineering. “The integrated solution operates with seamless, continuous and instant precision. With TrueColor, drivers and passengers get exceptional image quality in all lighting conditions.”
