On May 31, Nano One® Materials Corp. (Nano One), an innovator in battery material clean technology, and BASF, an active chemical company with extensive experience in battery material development and manufacturing, announced that they have signed a joint development agreement. Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly develop a process to reduce byproducts based on BASF's HEDTM series of advanced cathode active materials (CAM) and use Nano One's patented One-Pot process for the next generation of CAM commercial production, as well as metal to CAM (M2CAM®) technology.

BASF has a range of CAM products that are well suited to the evolving battery requirements in automotive powertrains and has a strong track record of collaborating with other companies to develop these products. Nano One and BASF will also use the M2CAM® process to achieve greater flexibility in manufacturing methods and product performance, reducing energy consumption and environmental footprint.

“BASF is a global leader in chemistry and high-performance lithium-ion battery cathode materials, and we are proud to be pioneering new areas with them to improve the performance, cost and environmental footprint of CAM production,” said Dan Blondal, CEO of Nano One. “Through our collaboration, we will jointly differentiate production processes and products to build a more resilient and sustainable supply chain.”

Dr. Heiko Urtel, Vice President of Global Research and Development of Battery Materials at BASF, added: “Nano One has advanced technology that has the potential to improve the product performance of our high-performance cathode active materials and further simplify the synthesis of battery materials. We look forward to building a synergistic working relationship and generating business opportunities for our next generation cathode active materials.”
