On May 6, CATL said that the company plans to officially launch the Kirin battery in the second quarter of this year.
CATL said that the company's Kirin battery has 13% higher energy density than large cylindrical batteries under the same electrochemical system, so the company believes that Kirin batteries are extremely competitive as mainstream products. At the same time, some customers need to use large cylindrical batteries due to special car design reasons, and CATL has already started cooperation with them.
In addition, CATL also pointed out that the company released a sodium-ion battery last year. The energy density of its single cell is as high as 160Wh/kg. After charging for 15 minutes at room temperature, the power can reach more than 80%. In a low-temperature environment of -20%℃, it also has a discharge retention rate of more than 90%. The system integration efficiency can reach more than 80%. The company is committed to promoting the industrialization of sodium-ion batteries by 2023.
Regarding the impact of the expansion project on the company's development and the current progress of the project, CATL responded that in response to the short-term supply chain tension, the company has built a competitive supply network, including but not limited to long-term contracts, investment, self-production, and recycling. In addition, the establishment of the company's lithium carbonate base in Jiangxi and the advancement of key overseas resource projects such as Indonesian nickel will provide a resource reserve for the company's development.
