Regarding the issue of Great Wall Ora Good Cat's car computer chip not being the same as the one described, the old Intel processor was packaged as a Qualcomm 8-core high-performance processor and promoted as such. After being specifically reported by CCTV, public opinion was further fermented and expanded.
In this regard, after many official "explanations", Great Wall Euler came up with a new solution:
Ora Good Cat owners who place an order before December 31, 2021 will receive a rights package worth 7,200 yuan; in addition, for the first owner of the "ORA Good Cat" who picks up the car and places an order before the date of the announcement, the brand will upgrade the lifetime warranty on the three electrics provided in the "rights package" to a lifetime warranty for the entire vehicle, as well as a charging benefit of 10,000 yuan.
Some car owners said they could accept this plan, while others disagreed, saying that Ora's compensation plan was insincere and they only wanted to get back Qualcomm's car chips and return their cars.
In addition, there are media reports that the Qualcomm chips in Great Wall Ora Good Cat have also been installed in the car, but they have not been sold in the country.
The advertised Qualcomm 8155 chip is not available in China, but models exported overseas (to overseas markets such as the UK and India) are equipped with Qualcomm chips.
Some car owners also asked overseas Great Wall Ora Good Cat dealers about this issue and received a positive reply, but the Good Cat model exported to the UK has a local price of around 200,000 yuan.
Great Wall Motors' "different treatment" of domestic car owners has also caused dissatisfaction among many car owners.
In fact, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chips are not in short supply at the moment, and Ora may be more concerned about cost.
There is a huge gap in performance and cost between Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 and Intel Atom X5 E3940 chips. The official price of Qualcomm 8155 is US$80-100, while the latter is only US$34.
However, the compensation plan currently provided by Great Wall Ora to car owners is as high as tens of thousands of yuan, which has long covered the cost value of the chip. However, the "chip gate" crisis has not been completely resolved, and Great Wall Ora's operation can be said to be a huge loss.
