Lighting technology has evolved since the Audi R8 debuted its LED setup, and many automakers have realized that they can use lighting technology to create a nighttime corporate identity, even from a distance, making illuminated identity more important than vehicle logos. Volkswagen has even developed a way to use lights to communicate, but while lights are not interesting at all, Ford's latest invention is.

According to foreign media reports, Ford has developed an innovative technology that can easily customize the vehicle's headlights and taillights, creating a brand new look for the car in just minutes.
According to patent documents, Ford showed a Fusion model that added more ST style. It is not clear whether Ford is going to revive the Fusion ST project, but the lighting system it has developed can turn on the headlights or taillights from inside the vehicle. Once opened, there will be a small door leading to a panel that is mounted on the wall inside the vehicle and can be used as a removable plug-in. The secondary light source is directly mounted to the inner wall of the lamp housing, allowing the removable plug-in to illuminate independently, making the light more prominent when viewing the entire lighting system from outside the vehicle.

The document also explains that this system of custom lamps can be applied to any compartment of the headlights or taillights, including the compartments for the turn indicators. It is not clear whether this system is only designed for user customization or if it is a more convenience feature of Ford. If it is the latter, it is conceivable that Ford hopes to create a taillight that can be easily redesigned for high-performance models. Still, it is very likely that Ford will offer it as an additional removable plug-in for new cars, making it easier to give new cars a brand new look.
