In the field of new energy vehicles, China was relatively early in its layout, and it was also an opportunity for the domestic automobile industry to surpass traditional powers. However, in the first half of this year, the domestic new energy vehicle market was overtaken by Europe. Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, called on domestic automakers not to let overseas companies grab the lead.

At today's 2020 China Automotive Blue Book Forum, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL , stated, "Automakers, policymakers, and consumers in the automotive industry should not get up too early and catch up too late."

He said this with some background. In the first half of this year, the European new energy vehicle market grew by 52% year-on-year. However, the cumulative sales of domestic new energy vehicles from January to July still showed a year-on-year decline of 32.8%.

As a result of this growth, China's new energy vehicle market has been surpassed by Europe.

At the same time, CATL also lost its position as the world's largest power battery sales champion. In the first half of the year, LG Chem occupied 24.6% of the global electric vehicle battery market, ranking first, and CATL ranked second with a market share of 23.5%.

Faced with this situation, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, called on domestic automakers, related industry companies and government policymakers, "Don't let overseas markets take the lead before our infrastructure is ready."
