Whether it is a smartphone or an electric car , batteries are one of the bottlenecks in improving the current experience. It is difficult to achieve comprehensive progress in terms of battery life, safety, and lifespan. Occasionally, there are revolutionary technological advances, but once they are seen in mass production, people may be disappointed.

CATL, the leader in the domestic power battery industry, suddenly announced today that they have developed an advanced zero-degradation battery that can achieve zero decay within 1,500 cycles. They said this is a milestone long-life battery.

Batteries are the core components of electric vehicles, and battery life is directly related to the cost and service life of electric vehicles.

Currently, electric vehicles mainly have lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries . The former has low battery density, but low cost, long life, and a life cycle of up to 2,000 times. BYD is the representative of lithium iron phosphate batteries

CATL is the backbone of ternary lithium batteries. Its battery density is high, but the cost is correspondingly high, and the cycle life is relatively low. Previous data showed that the theoretical cycle life of this type of battery is only 1,500 times, and the actual life is around 800-1,000 times.

CATL did not disclose the details of the battery with a cycle life of 1,500 times that it announced this time, but judging from the indicators, it should be a breakthrough in ternary lithium batteries. The most critical issue now is when this long-life battery will be mass-produced.
