February 2nd news, recently, Apple obtained a patent called "System for Improving the Function of Automobile Exterior Rearview Mirrors", which can project images of the area around the car's blind spot onto the car's windows, windshield or other display screens.

It is understood that this technology involves the car's exterior rearview mirrors being able to project images of the surrounding driving environment onto the side windows or windshield in both driver driving and autonomous driving modes. The advanced system can also read important facial movements of the driver to understand when to retract or extend the exterior rearview mirrors.

Apple's patent uses traditional car rearview mirrors to provide future drivers with an adjustable exterior rearview mirror, taking wide field of view to a new level. Apple pointed out in its patent background that vehicles typically include side mirrors for enhancing the driver's field of view. These side mirrors supplement the field of view by allowing the driver to observe the environment including the side and rear of the vehicle.

Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a memo that the Apple Car could be launched in 2023. The autonomous vehicle industry is growing rapidly. The 2018 HTF Market Intelligence Report predicts that the global autonomous vehicle market could expand at a compound annual growth rate of 36%, with global revenue exceeding $173 billion by 2023.

Apple's smart car could arrive at a time when major players like Tesla and Uber are stepping up their self-driving efforts. Tesla, which has self-driving features in existing cars, has promised to launch fully self-driving cars as early as this year. Uber has also acknowledged that it is working on an autonomous driving system that uses sensors to see 360 degrees around the car.
