On November 7, 2019, WPG Holdings , a leading semiconductor component distributor dedicated to the Asia-Pacific market , announced that its subsidiary WPI has launched an advanced driver assistance solution based on NXP's (NXP) S32R274 77G mm Wave Radar.
Millimeter wave (mmWave) is a special radar technology that uses short-wavelength electromagnetic waves (operating frequency ranges from 30 to 300 GHz). The electromagnetic wave signal emitted by the radar system is blocked by objects on its transmission path and then reflected. By capturing the reflected signal, the radar system can determine the distance, speed and angle of the object. NXP S32R27 is a 32-bit microcontroller based on Power Architecture, targeting automotive and industrial radar applications. Compared with the previous MPC577X products, the performance-to-power ratio has been improved by more than 4 times. It can handle advanced radar signal processing and merge it with microcontroller functions. It is suitable for general software tasks and docking with automotive buses. It provides unique signal processing acceleration and a powerful multi-core architecture to meet the high-performance computing needs of modern beamforming fast linear frequency modulation radar systems.
The 77GHz radar reference design solution based on NXP S32R274+TEF8102 launched by WPG World Peace can be used for RADAR software development, performance/system evaluation and application demonstration to help developers quickly prototype high-performance automotive radar using NXP technology. Currently, the application scenarios of this solution mainly include Blind Spot Detection, LaneChange Assistance, Parking Assistance, Simple Gesture Recognition, etc. in vehicle-mounted assisted driving.

MCU Board: Adopts the market-leading radar processor NXP S32R274, with the safe and high-performance radar power management chip FS8410, and integrates a Gigabit line-speed Ethernet MAC module (ENET) for high-speed communication, receiving data sent from the RF Board via MIPI-CSI2. The S32R274 is a dual Power Architecture e200z4 32-bit CPU with a checker core (available in lock-step operation) and integrates the Signal Processing Toolbox (SPT) for high-performance hardware acceleration of RADAR signal processing operations.
RF Board: TEF810X (Dolphin) is a single-chip 77 GHz transceiver that integrates 3 transmit channels and 4 receive channels, a high-fidelity onboard ADC and a MIPI-CSI2 transmission interface that can transmit digitized RADAR signals to the MCU.
