According to foreign media reports, luxury car brand Porsche and technology giant Apple agree that streaming music will be the next development direction of in-car infotainment systems, so the two parties decided to work together: Apple will provide Apple Music for Porsche's new pure electric vehicle Taycan.
Klaus Zellmer, head of Porsche North America and CEO, said that integrating Apple Music into Taycan has always been the company's goal. "This is an innovation and advancement in design, and it also reflects the brand values we advocate. This is why we were so excited when this project started."
The all-electric Taycan will be officially unveiled in early September and is the most important new car released by Porsche in recent years. Since Porsche announced its plan to launch an all-electric model in 2015, Porsche executives have repeatedly emphasized that the Taycan will be consistent with the company's tradition in terms of performance, design style and technology.
The cooperation with Apple shows that Porsche hopes to adopt Apple's powerful in-car entertainment information system. Apple CarPlay launched by Apple has already occupied a place in the field of in-car infotainment system. Apple CarPlay needs to be connected to the car through the iPhone to realize other functions such as music playback, navigation, sending emails and text messages, while the Apple Music equipped in Taycan can be directly connected to the vehicle without the need for an iPhone, and it also has the functions of Apple CarPlay.
Lars Buchwald, head of sales, marketing and operations at Porsche, said: "We have not excluded Apple CarPlay because we still think it is the icing on the cake for our overall product. Using Apple CarPlay with a wireless phone can enable functions such as accessing emails, text messages and making calls."
In addition, those who choose the Taycan technology package when purchasing the vehicle will also receive up to three years of free in-car Internet data service, including roaming. Porsche has not yet set a reserve price for the Taycan, and the first batch of orders is expected to be delivered by the end of this year.
