On May 21, 2019, the launching ceremony of the "Xinchuang Cup - The First Future Automotive Human-Computer Interaction Design Competition for Colleges and Universities" was grandly held in Beijing. The competition was hosted by the Automotive Electronics Industry Alliance (AEIA), co-organized by domestic colleges and universities, and undertaken by China Computer News and Cypress Semiconductor. The competition will be held from May to November 2019, and will solicit works from undergraduate, master and doctoral students from colleges and universities across the country.
In the era of Internet of Vehicles, cars are no longer just a means of transportation. Technology has made cars more and more intelligent, and also brought us a richer in-car experience. Various vehicle control systems, perception systems, and infotainment systems have become increasingly important, and to a large extent determine the level of automotive electronic intelligence technology. The human-computer interaction system is the main way for users to use vehicles and obtain services, which directly affects the user experience of smart cars. This competition proposes "industry-university-research-application", hoping to find and cultivate more innovative talents from colleges and universities, bring new ideas and creativity to the future human-computer interaction design of automobiles, and inject fresh blood into the development of the smart car industry.
Deputy Secretary-General Li Hongyan said in his speech that creative technical talents are an important factor in promoting the sustainable development of China's automotive industry and will also help build a healthier automotive electronics industry. The Automotive Electronics Industry Alliance hosted the "Core Innovation Cup" competition in the hope of cultivating and tapping more innovative talents for the development of China's automotive electronics industry in the intelligent era, consolidating the talent base for independent innovation and industrial transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry, accelerating the transformation of knowledge and skills into productivity, and helping to build the soft power of the development of my country's electronic information industry.
As one of the organizers of this competition, Cypress Semiconductor Corporation has great expectations for this competition. At the launch ceremony, Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of Cypress, cited an example given by his mentor: a room full of adults may not be able to come up with a good idea, but a room full of children can come up with more than 20 good ideas. Indeed, China's automotive electronics industry in the era of intelligence needs new ideas and new creativity, and needs more young people to join in. Cypress has been actively practicing its commitment to "Made in China, Helping China Innovate", and has long supported the development of China's industry. Regarding this competition, Hassane El-Khoury said: "Cypress is very honored to host the first Future Car Human-Computer Interaction Design Competition for Colleges and Universities, and to contribute to enhancing collaborative innovation between the industry and the education sector, and promoting the advancement of human-computer interaction technology and the development of the automotive electronics industry."
Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of Cypress
Professor Hu Yong, Vice Dean of the School of New Media Art and Design of Beihang University, Ji Donghui, Strategic Officer of Zebra Network Technology Co., Ltd., Zhang Wendi, Chief of the Human-Computer Interaction Section of the Automotive Research Institute of Beijing Automotive Co., Ltd., Qin Guoliang, Director of the Product Department of Singularity Automotive, and other well-known domestic and foreign experts and industry elites attended the conference and delivered wonderful speeches.
In the subsequent multi-party dialogue session, several guests had in-depth communication and exchanges on the future development trend of human-computer interaction, the future development of intelligent cockpits, the upgrading of the automotive industry, and the training of talents between schools and enterprises. All guests believed that Chinese consumers and car dealers pay more attention to the interior of the car and are more willing to accept human-computer interaction technology, which also proves that China has more advantages in developing human-computer interaction technology. However, there are also some difficulties in the development of human-computer interaction technology. For example, multimedia and other entertainment equipment bring better driving experience to drivers, but how to balance communication, product design and driving safety? And how can companies create products suitable for themselves? These issues still need to be explored continuously.
Therefore, it is crucial to strengthen technological innovation and talent training in the field of human-computer interaction. In this regard, the guests unanimously agreed that the "Xinchuang Cup" first college future automobile human-computer interaction design competition played the role of a communication bridge and display platform, and truly achieved "production, education, research and application", which is conducive to laying a talent foundation for independent innovation and industrial transformation of the automobile industry.
Competition Overview
This competition solicits works from undergraduate, master's and doctoral students from universities across the country. Students from departments such as automotive, electronics, automation and industrial design are encouraged to participate, and cross-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary teams are also welcome to participate.
● Competition period: May 2019 to November 2019
● All entries can be submitted through the official website of the competition. The works can be in the form of design drawings or creative animations and must be accompanied by relevant explanatory texts.
● The competition judging committee is composed of senior experts and elites from government agencies, industries, universities and leading companies.
● The final will be held at the "2019 Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology Conference" in November. Ten gold, silver and bronze winning works will be selected, and prize money, certificates and trophies will be awarded.
● All winners or teams will have the opportunity to intern in well-known automotive electronics companies and participate in the actual modification process of the designed works. At the same time, the gold medal winner or team will also have the opportunity to visit and study abroad.
It is worth mentioning that Cypress prepared a Hongqi CA770 sedan manufactured in 1979 as a reference model for design and modification. Hongqi is a pioneer of China's automobile industry and a model of independent innovation, demonstrating the new height of Made in China. We also hope that the students participating in this competition can give full play to their creativity and innovation potential and add icing on the cake to Made in China.
