Analog Devices, Inc., has recently introduced two intermediate frequency (IF) gain block amplifiers, the ADL5535 and ADL5536, which provide the industry's largest dynamic range due to the best linearity and noise figure performance, as well as internally matched intermediate frequency gain blocks. These general and versatile broadband intermediate frequency amplifiers cover a frequency range of 20MHz to 1,000MHz and are suitable for a variety of applications requiring high performance indicators, such as cellular communications, satellites, CATV, military, and instrumentation.

About the ADL5535 and ADL5536 IF Gain Block Amplifiers

The ADL5535 and ADL5536 IF gain block amplifiers offer exceptionally low noise figures and very high output third-order intercept point (OIP3) specifications over the entire 1GHz frequency range. The ADL5535 gain block amplifier offers exceptionally flat 15dB gain over the entire frequency range, as well as 3.3dB noise figure, 19.1dBm P1dB, and 47.6dBm OIP3 at 190MHz. The ADL5536 gain block amplifier offers flat 20dB gain characteristics over the entire frequency range, 2.8dB noise figure, 19.8dBm P1dB, and 46.5dBm OIP3 at 380MHz. Both amplifiers offer internally matched 50Ω impedance at the input and output, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. Only external input/output AC coupling capacitors, power supply decoupling capacitors, and an external inductor are required for normal operation. The performance of the ADL5535 and ADL5536 intermediate frequency gain block amplifiers is very stable over the rated temperature range and power supply range, and the device consistency is also very good. These devices are manufactured using a GaAs HBT process and have a robust ESD performance of ±1kV (Class 1C). They also use an MSL-1-level SOT-89 package, so they can be easily used in existing designs for evaluation. Under a single 5V power supply, the ADL5535 consumes only 97mA, and the ADL5536 consumes only 100mA, and the indicators can be guaranteed within the range of -40 to +85℃.

Pricing, Availability and Supporting Products

The ADL5535 and ADL5536 are available now in 3-pin SOT-89 packages at $1.75 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. Complementary products include the ADL535X, ADL536X and ADL580X series mixers.

ADI's RF IC products cover the entire RF signal chain. ADI's RF ICs cover the entire RF signal chain using a unique combination of design skills, system understanding and process technology. These products integrate industry-leading high-performance RF functional blocks and provide highly integrated WiMAX and short-range single-chip transceiver solutions. RF functional blocks include direct digital frequency synthesizers (DDS), phase-locked loop synthesizers (PLL); TruPwr(TM) RF power detectors and logarithmic amplifiers, X-AMP(R) variable gain amplifiers (VGA); power amplifiers (PA), low noise amplifiers (LNA) and other RF amplifiers, mixers, and direct conversion modulators and demodulators.
