MAX8600, MAX8601 Overview

The MAX8600/MAX8601 single-/dual-input linear battery chargers safely charge single-cell Li+ batteries. The charge rate is optimized for the given application temperature characteristics. No reduction in maximum charge current or maximum power consumption is required. The charging logic optimized for Li+ battery charging includes low-battery pre-charge, voltage- and current-limited fast charge, and top-off charge, while continuously monitoring the battery for overvoltage, overheat/cold, and charge time. Charge timeout protection is programmable. Charger status is indicated by three open-drain outputs.

The MAX8601 automatically selects between USB and AC adapter inputs. The AC adapter charge current is programmable, while the USB charge current is set to no more than 100mA or 500mA via USEL. The MAX8600 is a single-input charger without a USB input.

The MAX8600/MAX8601 are available in a tiny 3mm x 3mm power-enhanced TDFN package.
