Avago launches new high linearity power amplifier module products

Avago Technologies today announced the launch of two new high linearity power amplifier (PA) modules with low power consumption characteristics, which can improve the signal quality of WiMAX and WiFi applications in the 2GHz band. This power amplifier series has high linear power output, which can bring good linearity and low distortion, high power added efficiency (PAE), and input and output pre-matching, which can simplify matching and application design. Avago's MGA-43x28 power amplifier module adopts a miniaturized 5x5x0.85mm package and is very suitable for various high-power WiMAX, WLAN and LTE applications operating in the 2,300 to 2,700MHz band as the final power amplifier. Avago is a leading manufacturer of analog interface components for applications such as communications, industry and consumer.

The MGA-43x28 series power amplifier modules have the same package size, pin output arrangement and external matching circuit, so a common circuit board design can be used at different frequencies. In addition, Avago's power amplifiers in this series integrate bypass switch-controlled attenuators, which can provide about 24.0dB of attenuation and have built-in power detectors. Under typical operating conditions of 5V and 1A, the MGA-43228 can provide 29.1dBm linear power output with 2.5% error vector magnitude (EVM), 38.5dB gain and 16% PAE at 2,400MHz. Under the same operating conditions, the MGA-43328 provides 29.3dBm linear output power with 2.5% EVM, 37.3dB gain and 16% PAE at 2,600MHz. These features enable the MGA-43x28 series power amplifiers to provide excellent signal quality for computer performance evaluation (CPE) and reduce power consumption through higher throughput transmission.

  Features

  • Miniaturized size design: 5 x 5 x 0.85mm
  • Using advanced GaAs E-pHEMT technology
  • 5V power supply, can be used in 3.3V lower power supply applications
  • Built-in detector and shutdown switch
  • Meets MSL-2a requirements and adopts Pb-Free environmentally friendly lead-free design

Comparison of Class AB and Class D Amplifiers
Class D audio amplifiers use pulse width modulation (PWM) signals instead of the linear signals usually used by Class AB amplifiers. The PWM signal here covers the audio signal as well as the PWM switching frequency and harmonics, which is a nonlinear signal. Class D amplifiers are much more efficient than Class AB
