MILPITAS, CA – June 27, 2013 – Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM4649, a 10A step-down µModule® regulator with high operating efficiency and low temperature rise in a 9mm x 15mm x 4.92mm BGA (ball grid array) package. At full power and 0ºC to 83ºC ambient temperature, the LTM4649 does not require a heat sink, airflow or output current derating, and can operate at up to 86% efficiency (5VIN ~12VIN, 1.5VOUT/10A). At ambient temperatures up to 100ºC, the output current is reduced by only 4A, and only 2A when 400LFM cooling airflow is provided. The LTM4649 converts a 4.5V~16V input supply to a lower output voltage (0.6V to 3.3V). The LTM4649 incorporates a differential remote sense amplifier (to compensate for voltage drops due to board trace impedance) that regulates a load voltage with an accuracy of ±1.5% over line, load and temperature (-40°C to 125°C).
The LTM4649 provides input and output clocks for multiphase operation between multiple devices to provide accurate current sharing for loads up to 40A. Multiphase operation reduces input and output ripple and reduces the number of input and output capacitors. Applications include point-of-load conversion from 12V or 5V inputs in telecommunications, industrial, avionics, and test equipment.
The LTM4649 can be synchronized to an external clock with a frequency range of 400kHz to 750kHz. With options for Burst Mode® operation (for maximum conversion efficiency at light loads) and pulse skipping operation (for lower output voltage ripple), users can personalize circuit performance. The LTM4649 allows output voltage tracking, which can be used to sequence multiple power rails in the system. To protect the load, the LTM4649 provides output overvoltage and overcurrent protection.
The LTM4649 is guaranteed to operate over the -40°C to 125°C internal temperature range in E- and I-grade versions. Pricing starts at $16.75 each in 1,000-piece quantities. For more information, visit www.linear.com/product/LTM4649.
