The MAX14780E +5.0 V powered, ±30kV ESD protected RS-485/RS-422 transceiver features a driver and a receiver. The device includes fail-safe circuitry that guarantees a logic-high receiver output when the receiver inputs are open or shorted. The receiver outputs are logic-high if all transmitters on the bus are disabled (high impedance) during termination. The MAX14780E includes a hot-swap capability that eliminates spurious bus transitions during power-up or hot-insertion.

The MAX14780E features slew-rate-limited drivers that minimize EMI and reduce reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free data transmission up to 500kbps. The MAX14780E is ideal for half-duplex communications; it draws 1.2mA of supply current at no load or with the drivers fully disabled. The MAX14780E has a 1/8-unit load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 bus transceivers.

The MAX14780E is available in an 8-pin SO package

How to Simplify Power Line Communications in Building Automation Systems
How RS-485 transceivers with OOK modulation simplify power line communications in building automation systems As I write this, it's the height of the Texas summer, with temperatures reaching 95°F (32°C). But thanks to the air conditioning, I'm feeling perfectly comfortable. Sometimes it seems like a m

RS-485 interface circuit and test circuit with automatic transceiver conversion
The dotted box shown in Figure 1 is an interface circuit. By analyzing the truth table, its sending and receiving processes are as follows: when DI=0 at the sending end, DE/RE=1 sends a 0 level, and RO=0 at the receiving end; when DI=1 at the sending end, DE/RE=0, VA=VB=2.5V, and RO=1 at the receiving end due to the
