The speaker system needs to reproduce various music programs with high quality. According to the properties of the music signal, its peak factor is about 10-15DB. From the perspective of ensuring sound quality, the power amplifier should not have any limiting within this dynamic range, that is, the maximum output power of the power amplifier should be 5-8 times the rated power of the speaker. Although this power configuration has good sound quality, it will require a large investment. Therefore, this power ratio is generally set at 1-2 times the rated power of the speaker unit.

The following are configuration experiences in general audio engineering

1. In some projects with low requirements and limited investment, the power of the power amplifier is at least equivalent to the rated power of the speaker. But be very careful to keep the sound undistorted. Too small power configuration may not seem to damage the speaker unit, but it is not. Too small power is very likely to cause overload clipping, generate a lot of harmonics, and burn out the tweeter.

2. Generally, the recommended power of the amplifier is 1.5 times. The bass part should be more than 1.5 times, so as to get enough power.

3. For venues with extremely high requirements, such as recording studios*, concert halls, etc., the ideal power is twice the power of the speaker. (This is consistent with one of the recommended values ​​of the matching standard formulated by the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC).

In short, there is no rigid standard for designing amplifier power, which depends entirely on the investment budget and the requirements for sound quality.
