1-Wire serial memory products provide EEPROM and EPROM memory matrices that can be powered and transfer data over a single 1-Wire interface. The 1-Wire interface offers significant advantages over other industry standard interfaces (I²C or SPI™) when the host controller has limited connections to the memory or when the interface needs to be minimized, or when factory-provided unique device serialization is required. 1-Wire products require only two connections to ensure full device speed, while I²C memories require four connections and SPI memories require five connections.

With a unique 64-bit device serial number and network operation command protocol, 1-Wire memory allows multiple devices to be connected to the same 1-Wire bus and work independently. 1-Wire memory provides security features ranging from SW programmable write protection to low-cost, encrypted, and bidirectional authentication using the industry standard secure hash algorithm (SHA-1). Using a single-wire connection and ground return, an idle controller port line can form a 1-Wire interface, minimizing system cost.
