Few industries place reliability and maintenance-free features in equipment power systems as design-critical as the medical industry. Medical electronics are often considered the most safety- and reliability-conscious electronics, driven by high-end global design and production standards.
safety standard
RECOM’s RACM1200-V power supplies are designed to meet the medical-specific safety standard 2 x MOPP (Means of Patient Protection). Recognized by standards bodies such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the European Commission’s IEC60601-1, the standard requires the RACM1200-V to provide a 3000Vac Means of Operator Protection (MOOP) isolation voltage, maintain 5mm creepage distance and 4mm clearance, and provide double insulation between the primary and secondary sides of the power supply.
In addition, RACM1200-V meets the low leakage current limits for BF type (body isolation) applications as specified by IEC 60601-1, as these applications are typically conductive and in direct contact with the patient's body for a long period of time. These applications include, but are not limited to, blood pressure monitors, incubators, ultrasound equipment, heart rate monitors, etc. The table below shows the isolation specifications for BF type devices, and RACM1200-V not only meets but also exceeds these standards.
The ground isolation voltage of RACM1200-V is 2000VAC, which meets the POE requirements. Finally, the power supply has passed the safety certifications of IEC/EN 62368, UL/IEC/EN 60601 and IEC/EN 61558-2-16.
Performance
The RACM1200-V is equipped with high-performance power output while maintaining extremely low standby power, making it ideal for applications that require long-term reliability and sustainability. The power supply has a universal AC input range of 85-264VAC and can provide 1000W of power without active cooling such as fans, and can provide up to 1200W of continuous power when using active cooling. The RACM1200-V can be factory-set to 24VDC or 48VDC output voltage, with 50A and 25A output current limits respectively. The RACM1200-V series can include a fail-safe setting upon request, using intelligent, controlled fault limiting functions to ensure that the power supply is always at a safe operating level. In addition, the RACM1200-V is extremely efficient and has even received 80 PLUS Platinum certification, which means that it achieves the following efficiency ratio of output to input power (taken from Clearresult.com).
The RACM1200-V has a compact size of only 3.8 in x 9 in x 1.5 in (97 mm x 229 mm x 38 mm), minimizing the size to fit a variety of applications.
If your application requires up to 1200W of continuous power, the RACM1200-V offers a 12V smart output controller that utilizes a PWM or voltage signal to ensure proper control of an external cooling fan.
Thermal Management
The most impressive feature of this high power density power supply is the design of the passive cooling system, which can be silent and efficient in most applications. The baseplate of RACM1200-V can handle all thermal management loads, whether the device continuously outputs less than 1000W or boosts to 1200W for no more than 10 seconds to keep it below 80°C, which is far below the power requirements of many applications. For applications that require more than 1000W, RACM1200-V can provide up to 1200W of constant output power under 2.5m/s forced cooling. RACM1200-V comes with an integrated 12V fan controller to ensure that the fan is started only when needed to maintain high efficiency. For the comfort of patients, the equipment in the ward should limit audible noise, which makes RACM1200-V with excellent fanless power output capability an ideal choice.
Summarize
The RACM1200-V is an ideal power supply for medical monitoring and automated measurement applications. Because this modular power solution complies with various global medical safety standards, it is a perfect fit to be part of your next medical monitoring device.
