When it comes to wearable technology and devices, we usually think of high-tech products like smart watches or Google Glass. However, recently, the US operator AT&T launched a wearable medical alarm device called EverThere from a different perspective, which is specifically designed to help the elderly get out of danger. It can be worn with a lanyard, clip, or strap.

EverThere can detect if the wearer falls, and automatically send an alarm to the pre-set emergency dispatch center and transmit the wearer's location. AT&T has closely integrated this device with its mobile broadband network. After contacting the emergency dispatch center, the ambulance is "guided" to the wearer's current location through GPS positioning and rapid rescue is carried out.

In order to detect falls, EverThere has two built-in accelerometers, a magnetometer, a gyroscope, and a barometer. However, AT&T said that these five sensors cannot be 100% accurate. After all, there can be no accidents in matters of life and death, so there is also a manual call button on EverThere.

EverThere has a built-in hands-free handset that can be activated by pressing the call button and immediately sends the wearer's current location data. The built-in lithium polymer battery can be used for 36 hours per charge.

Currently, the EverThere wearable device for seniors is available for sale, and AT&T provides two packages for consumers to choose from. One is a contract package of $99.99 (about RMB 600) for the first 11 months, and then $29.99 (about RMB 180) for the 12th month or a contract-free package of $199.99 (about RMB 1,200), and an additional service fee of $29.99 (about RMB 180). If you have elderly people at home, you might as well let them wear this EverThere so that they can provide first-hand assistance anytime, anywhere when danger occurs.
