WPG Group launches LIN communication through-type taillight solution based on Microchip, onsemi and ams OSRAM products
On November 15, 2021, WPG Holdings, a leading semiconductor component distributor dedicated to the Asia-Pacific market, announced that its subsidiary Pinjia has launched a LIN communication through-type taillight solution based on Microchip PIC16F15344, Onsemi NCV7685 and amsOSRAM LED.

Car taillights play an important role in the structure of cars as lighting and signal indicators. As major manufacturers pay more and more attention to the design of car appearance, the shape of car taillights is not only focused on the improvement of functionality, but also pays more attention to the design of appearance. Through-type taillights have been adopted in more and more car models due to the large number of LEDs and good animation visual effects. The LIN communication through-type taillight solution based on Microchip, Onsemi and amsOSRAM products developed by Dalian Dapinjia can help users quickly complete the design of through-type taillights and reduce the difficulty of development.

The A and B lights of this solution are driven by independent LEDs, which meets the requirements of real car design. The A and B lights are synchronized using LIN commands to achieve smooth transitions between flow and animation. The LIN SiP MCU with built-in touch button function is used to implement LIN BCM simulation, which is used to control the various functions of the demonstration taillights. In addition, the music rhythm function allows the LED to dance to the rhythm of the music. Although the solution only designs red and yellow light, users can add other colors of light based on this method. If RGB LED is used, it can also be used to develop music atmosphere lights in the car.
In terms of component selection, the PIC16F15344 used in this solution is a low-power MCU from Microchip with analog, core independent peripherals and communication peripherals, which can realize various general and low-power applications; and the OnsemiNCV7685 is a 12-channel 60mALED linear current driver with 128 adjustable duty cycles and a common reference programmable constant current source, supporting independent PWM dimming for each channel, and can be controlled through I2C to program each output channel serial port.
Core technology advantages:
Adopt Microchip PIC16F15344 automotive-grade 8-bit MCU, low cost, high reliability and simple development;
Adopt Microchip LIN SBC ATA663254 automotive-grade LIN transceiver, which integrates 85mA LDO and can directly power the MCU without adding additional LDO;
Adopting Microchip LIN SiP ATSAMHA1E14A, it integrates LIN transceiver, MCU with ARM Cortex-M0+ core, LDO, PTC touch controller, and realizes LIN BCM simulation function with a single chip. (This chip is also suitable for the main control of through-type taillights and in-car music atmosphere lights);
Adopt Microchip MIC28514 automotive-grade high-voltage and high-current DC-DC, with an input withstand voltage of up to 75V, an output current of up to 5A, and support for soft start, which is used to pre-step down the voltage supply to the LED, thereby reducing the heat loss on the linear LED driver;
Onsemi NCV7685 is used as the linear LED driver, which has 12 channels with a maximum of 60mA linear constant current drive capability, supports independent PWM dimming for each channel, and has LED fault detection and feedback functions. It is controlled through I2C, and the I2C address can be configured and programmed.
