What is the new Microchip Bluetooth® Audio SoC? What does it do? As mainstream consumer demand for premium audio experiences continues to increase, consumers expect Bluetooth audio devices to provide a flawless, uninterrupted audio experience. However, Bluetooth audio designs are often limited by the bit depth and frequency of existing codecs (communications and compression technologies used to send audio over radio waves). Today, Microchip Technology Inc. provides audio system designers with a proven chip-scale system IS2064GM-0L3 that uses Sony's LDAC audio codec technology* and is compatible with Bluetooth 5.0.

The SoC enables manufacturers to develop a new generation of audio devices using advanced codecs, bringing high-definition sound quality into Bluetooth products for the masses, rather than just for audiophiles. High-end headphone maker Audeze has already implemented the SoC into its high-end Mobius gaming headset.

New Microchip Bluetooth® Audio SoC, did you know?

Audeze Mobius headphones use Microchip's IS2064GM-0L3 SoC to implement Bluetooth wireless connectivity that supports LDAC and other audio codec interfaces. Considered the best-sounding codec on the market, Sony's LDAC can transmit data throughput up to 990 Kbps, which is three times higher than the standard Bluetooth sub-band codec (SBC), and can maintain up to 96 kHz/24 Bit frequency and bit depth. This high compression and decompression efficiency allows Bluetooth audio devices to provide a high-definition audio listening experience.

Sankar Thiagasamudram, CEO of Audeze, said: “Our new Mobius headset uses a number of breakthrough technologies. In order to ensure the high quality of Bluetooth audio, we use Microchip’s IS2064GM-0L3 SoC in the headset. Thanks to the strong support of Microchip , we were able to easily and quickly incorporate the LDAC codec into our products."

The IS2064GM-0L3 SoC not only enables more audio product suppliers to use the LDAC codec, but also enables these manufacturers to leverage Microchip's excellent global technical support and development environment compatible with all Microchip devices to provide customers with implementation support and accelerate product development. Listed. The LDAC codec is also integrated into the Bluetooth protocol stack of the Android 8.0 Oreo™ operating system, allowing LDAC technology to be more widely applied to the transmitter.

Steve Caldwell, vice president of Microchip's Wireless Solutions Products Division, said: "Microchip enables OEMs to meet the growing consumer demand for high-quality audio by leveraging the convenience and widespread use of Bluetooth wireless technology. OEMs can focus on developing audio products and improving sound quality, They know that with Microchip, Bluetooth wireless technology can be seamlessly integrated." The above is the analysis of the new Microchip Bluetooth® audio SoC, I hope it can be helpful to everyone.
