The ATmega48 can be driven by an external clock source by connecting it as shown in Figure 15.
At this time, the CKSEL fuse bit must be programmed according to Table 15.
After selecting this oscillator source, the startup time is determined by the fuse bit SUT, as shown in Table16.
To ensure that the MCU can work stably, the oscillation frequency of the external clock source cannot be changed suddenly. A sudden change of the operating frequency exceeding 2% will cause abnormal phenomena. The oscillation frequency of the external clock should be changed while the MCU is in reset state.
It should be noted that the system clock prescaler can change the internal clock frequency during operation and keep the system running stably. Please refer to P31 "System Clock Prescaler".
