Industry insiders said that SK Semiconductor plans to produce power management chips at its 8-inch wafer fab in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province as early as July and install them in Tesla electric vehicles.

In addition to Tesla, SK Semiconductor has also cooperated with many global automakers in the field of automotive power semiconductors, and recently passed the production quality audits of global leading automotive parts companies such as Bosch and Continental.

A person in the semiconductor industry said: "It is an objective reality that SK Semiconductor needs more funds for R&D and equipment investment to ensure competitiveness," and added that "the speed of performance improvement will accelerate as we acquire proprietary technology" in electronic semiconductor processes.

In October 2021, SK Hynix announced that it would acquire Key Foundry for 576 billion won (IT Home Note: currently approximately RMB 3.059 billion), and completed the acquisition in August 2022, subsequently changing its name to SK Qifang Semiconductor.

According to information, Key Foundry became independent from MagnaChip in September 2020 and is mainly engaged in the foundry production of power management ICs (PMIC), panel driver chips (DDI), microcontrollers (MCU), etc.
