Digital dashboard and wireless connectivity reference platform delivers high-performance graphics and rich connectivity for a superior two-wheeler user experience
Shanghai, China - October 17 , 2023 - NXP Semiconductors NV announced the launch of a combined digital instrument panel reference platform that supports wireless connectivity, designed for mass-market two-wheelers, including motorcycles . cars, electric motorcycles, commuter bicycles, etc. The platform combines the high-performance i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU with the highly integrated AW611 Wi-Fi ® 6 and Bluetooth ® / Bluetooth Low Energy audio connectivity single-chip solution and the KW45 secure wireless connectivity MCU to provide a cost-effective system, It can enhance the user experience of two-wheeled transportation. The platform supports high-performance graphics and rich connectivity use cases such as hands-free calling, smartphone projection wireless pairing, Bluetooth audio, OTA updates, cloud connectivity, fleet management, secure vehicle access and vehicle location.
product importance
There are currently close to 300 million two-wheelers on the road around the world. Whether they are cost-effective vehicles necessary for daily commuting or higher-performance recreational vehicles, two-wheelers are becoming more and more electrified. Connected digital displays with rich graphics are critical to the safe operation of such electric vehicles, providing critical information that enables drivers to compare navigation details with battery charge and health, as well as charging point locations. Compared with four-wheeled electric vehicles, two-wheeled electric vehicles have a limited driving range, and these details are crucial for safe travel. Field telemetry also provides OEMs with important information about usage and battery life.
NXP’s digital dashboard and connectivity reference platform is designed to help OEMs deliver these essential capabilities while supporting a variety of connectivity use cases and enhancing user experience. These include three-way Bluetooth pairing between the phone, the two-wheeler’s digital dashboard and headphones; music sharing between rider and pillion passenger; and even location-based features such as “find my two-wheeler” in a parking lot.
More details
Sivakumar Yeddanapudi, global senior director of Visteon's Cockpit Domain Controller product line, said: "Whether it's daily commuting or leisure travel, drivers are looking for dashboards that can provide connectivity capabilities to enhance the driving entertainment experience and safety. Safety indication from the dashboard From devices, instrumentation, phone pairing and music sharing to navigation and electric vehicle charging management, NXP’s wireless connectivity-enabled dashboard reference platform combined with Vector Graphics enables us to deliver a high-end user experience at a price that OEM customers will appreciate.”
Dan Loop, vice president and general manager of automotive edge at NXP, said: “Digital dashboards not only inform drivers of vehicle status, they are the primary way drivers can customize their vehicles to their liking. NXP’s digital dashboard and connectivity platform can Continuously updated and customized to support the latest functional safety, security and connectivity capabilities, all in a performance-balanced, wireless connectivity-enabled, cost-effective platform.”
The new generation dashboard and wireless connectivity reference platform uses NXP ’s high-performance i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU , which is AEC-Q100 Level 3 qualified. The i.MX RT1170 is highly integrated and eliminates the need for expensive external memory or power management subsystems, helping to reduce system costs. The platform comes with NXP Wi-Fi and Bluetooth device drivers pre-integrated into the MCUXpresso SDK, along with displays, GNSS and more, allowing developers to easily create their own two-wheeler connected dashboards. The dual-core i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU provides a wide range of interfaces for connecting peripherals such as WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, audio, display and camera sensors, as well as vector graphics accelerators. The rich graphics capabilities of the i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU are supported by NXP’s extensive partner ecosystem, including Altia, QT Corporation , TARA Solutions’ Embedded Wizard and Crank.
The reference platform also features the AW611 , a highly integrated dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth/Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 single-chip solution with AEC-Q100 Level 2 qualification. This high level of integration enables efficient coexistence between internal and external radios while helping to reduce system costs.
The platform also includes the KW45 BLE wireless MCU to provide secure vehicle access and vehicle location services. The KW45's tri-core architecture integrates a 96 MHz Arm® Cortex® - M33 application core, a dedicated Cortex-M3 radio core and an isolated EdgeLock® security enclave. It also integrates wireless that is compliant with the Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 standard and can support up to 24 secure connections simultaneously.
