TDK achieves 100% renewable energy for all its manufacturing sites in Japan and will expand this globally
July 5, 2023
TDK Corporation announced that from July 1, 2023, all of its electricity consumption in Japan will come from 100% renewable energy, thanks to the company's purchase of renewable electricity from Tohoku Electric Power Co. and other domestic power companies.
TDK is currently implementing measures to achieve at least 50% of the TDK Group's total global electricity consumption from renewable energy by fiscal 2025, which is an interim milestone towards its overall goal of 100% renewable energy supply by 2050, in line with the company's 2050 Net Zero Environmental Charter. With this initiative in Japan, 44 of our 81 manufacturing sites around the world will be 100% renewable by July 2023, increasing the current renewable energy use rate to approximately 40%.
In addition, the TDK Group is implementing the following initiatives at its manufacturing sites around the world:
Install photovoltaic devices (for converting light energy into electrical energy) at specific New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (ATL; TDK's consolidated subsidiary specializing in the rechargeable battery manufacturing business) production sites, and start using renewable energy electricity at one of the production sites from January 2022.
Starting July 2022, all electricity used by TDK Philippines, Inc. (TDK's consolidated subsidiary specializing in passive component manufacturing) will be generated from geothermal sources.
Installing photovoltaic systems at TDK Electronics (TDK's consolidated subsidiary specializing in passive component manufacturing) production sites around the world, including Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Spain, etc.
The TDK Group will continue to work hard to promote renewable energy at its manufacturing sites around the world, aiming to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2050 and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society.
