Universal Robots launches new 20 kg industrial collaborative robot, adding to its powerful product portfolio
Shanghai, China, June 22, 2022
Universal Robots, a Danish collaborative robot manufacturer, has announced the launch of a new 20kg collaborative robot.
The UR20 collaborative robot adopts a brand-new design, closely combined with Universal Robots' rich experience in advanced engineering, and further expands the company's powerful collaborative robot product portfolio.
This new product fully demonstrates Universal Robots' innovative strength in the field of collaborative robots. The new joint design of UR20 can further shorten the cycle time and complete heavier load operations. Its working radius is 1750 mm, which can reach the height of a standard European pallet, which will reshape the way companies package and palletize. And because of its small footprint, UR20 can help companies achieve more possibilities in existing production space.
In addition to palletizing, the UR20 can also be used for welding, material handling, machine loading and machine tending, and can be seamlessly integrated with a number of innovative solutions created by Universal Robots' partner ecosystem.
Kim Povlsen, President of Universal Robots, said:
“The UR20 is not just bigger than our existing collaborative robots, it redefines collaborative robots.
It is our most innovative product and the latest result of our 17 years of experience in the robotics industry. The company's expert engineers have completely rebuilt the robot arm, while the product continues to use our highly acclaimed intuitive user interface.
The benefits of the UR20 are clear, with faster cycle times, the ability to handle heavier loads, a larger reach, and a smaller footprint. We have also enhanced our software to provide users with unprecedented motion control performance.”

Since launching its first commercial collaborative robot in 2008, Universal Robots has built a rich ecosystem of more than 1,100 integrators, distributors and independent partners, which has created a rich supply of components, kits and applications for Universal Robots. Universal Robots has sold more than 50,000 collaborative robots to date, and the design of the UR20 draws on the company's extensive experience in serving past customers.
Universal Robots' e-series products have been a huge success, and now the UR20 has opened a new chapter in the next generation of collaborative robots. In the future, the company will also create a series of innovative next-generation products.
Kim Povlsen added:
“The development of the UR20 is a perfect example of the passion we put into every product we create to help every customer succeed. We strive for high-quality engineering, stunning Scandinavian design, and a great user experience from software to joint end caps.
The UR20 high-payload robot is the first next-generation product from Universal Robots that enables customers to achieve end-to-end automation and help them complete new tasks with collaborative robots. In the future, we will continue to redefine automation and create more collaborative robot products with the same innovative performance. Please stay tuned for the latest news from Universal Robots, we are very much looking forward to sharing insights on future trends with you. "
