What is a serial port server? A serial port server is a device that allows serial devices to connect to the Internet. Here we introduce a new serial port ID networking technology . Different from the traditional TCP/IP connection method based on IP plus port , P2P technology communicates based on device ID . Users only need to enter the ID of the ZLAN P2P device to communicate with serial devices around the world , without worrying about whether the device is in the LAN or the Internet, nor do they need to do port mapping and do not need to worry about IP changes. P2P is a distributed network structure, which is different from the network structure based on central server forwarding.

Zhuo Lan P2P product technology solutions include hardware devices and chips, software development kits, development boards and computer software. P2P devices are divided into two categories: one is to transparently transmit network data to the RS232/485 serial port of the device; the other is to forward the data from the network to another IP network device in the local area network.

The first category includes most products. Connect the serial port device ( RS232 , RS485 , UART ) to the serial port of P2P finished products and P2P chips. The P2P host computer software can communicate directly with this serial port. Each ZLAN P2P product has a unique ID in the world . When the user needs to communicate through P2P , just fill in the ID on the mobile phone or computer to establish a P2P connection with the device. At this time, the data sent from the mobile phone and computer will be output from the RS232/RS485/UART serial port of the hardware product, and vice versa. The data received from the serial port will be sent to the mobile phone and computer. On the computer side, the zlvircom tool can be used to communicate through the virtual TCP port or virtual serial port method, and on the mobile phone, it can be used through the ZLAN P2P development kit.

The second category is N2N products, as shown in Figure 3. They are generally used to proxy and forward data from network devices on the TCP server side of a local area network, to achieve P2P - based Internet transmission. They are particularly suitable for monitoring network-port PLCs .

50. 3.1. Finished product series

The finished product series include: 3G/4G , Ethernet, Wifi . The model of 3G/4G product is ZLAN8343N -7 . Generally speaking, 3G/4G DTU must communicate through the central server, that is, send the adopted data to the server, and DTU acts as a TCP client. After adopting ZLAN P2P , there is no need to build a server. Just add the ID of ZLAN8343N on the host computer to communicate with the serial port of 8343N . In addition to 3G/4G , ZLAN 8343N -7 also has Ethernet communication function.

ZLAN5143N is an Ethernet P2P to serial port product. As long as it is connected to Ethernet, it can remotely communicate with the serial port of 5143N .

ZLAN7144N is similar to ZLAN5143N , but it has two communication modes: wifi and ethernet.

50. 3.2. Chips and modules

In order to transform the user's serial port devices and network devices into P2P devices, ZLAN provides P2P chip ZLAN1043N and P2P module.

The chip realizes P2P Ethernet to UART conversion , which can be easily and low-cost integrated into the user's device. The P2P module is divided into Ethernet interface and WIFI/ Ethernet dual interface. Users can choose according to their needs, the models are ZLSN2043BN and ZLSN7044N respectively . The design of the module solution is simpler than that of the chip.

50. 3.3.N2N Products

N2N product, short for Net-to-Net , is ZLAN7144N2 . It implements access to the original intranet port devices, while other P2P products implement serial port device access or P2P to serial port conversion. In particular, the program download and upgrade of the intranet port PLC can be applied. As shown in Figure 3 , when there is a network port PLC that needs to be accessed through the Inernet , a ZLAN7144N2 is placed in the LAN of this PLC . At this time, the user can access this PLC in any place with a network without any configuration of the intranet router.

50. 3.4. Server P2P software

If users want to build a complete P2P system for their own maintenance and management, they can also purchase ZLAN's P2P server program. ZLAN provides detailed server configuration methods, steps and training. The advantage of purchasing P2P server software is that users can manage the device ownership and passwords of each user by themselves. There is no need to add device IDs and register users through the ZLAN P2P platform , and customer brand unification is good.
