Diodes Incorporated's 20Gbps multi-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer improves HD/UHD video signal routing efficiency

Plano, Texas, May 13, 2021 - Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) has expanded its portfolio of passive video multiplexer/demultiplexer switches with the introduction of the 4-channel PI3WVR14412. This 2:1/1:2 multiplexer/demultiplexer device supports operating speeds up to 20Gbps, outperforming other products on the market and 35% faster than competitors.

PI3WVR14412 fully complies with the DisplayPort™ 2.0 and HDMI2.1 interface standards in the latest generation of graphics processor units (GPUs). Main product applications are mobile workstations, game consoles, docking systems, notebook computers, monitors, TVs and set-top boxes.

The PI3WVR14412 supports routing of 4K high-definition (HD) and 8K ultra-high-definition (UHD) video signals with minimal signal degradation from two sources to one receiver, or vice versa, from one source to two receivers.

Diodes Incorporated applied proprietary technology to increase the operating speed of the PI3WVR14412. The device's high-speed channels also maintain industry-leading signal integrity. When operating at a frequency of 10GHz, the insertion loss is -2dB and the return loss is -10dB. At this frequency, the channel-to-channel crosstalk is only -35dB and the off isolation is -15dB. The bit-to-bit skew is typically only 5ps.

Bidirectional communication is provided through the AUX channel. This means that other protocols such as USB 2.0 can be supported without additional wiring of the host, reducing the overall system cost. The wide input signal voltage range (0V to 3.6V) can directly couple HDMI under VDD bias and directly couple DP signals under 0 bias. Reducing the use of passive components also reduces the required space on the circuit board. Hot plug detection (HPD) and display data channel (DDC) are also added to save the need for an external multiplexer. The product also supports a wide temperature range of 0°C to 105°C.

These multiplexer/demultiplexer devices are available in a compact 40-pin TQFN package (3mm x 6mm x 0.75mm).
