In January this year, Intel built a new 3.2 megawatt (MW) solar power station in Malaysia. The solar power station is located at Intel's chip and packaging test manufacturing plant in Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Malaysia, and is Intel's largest solar power station outside the United States. Intel operations are using it to power six buildings in Kulim and Penang campuses. The total installed capacity of this solar power station reaches 4.1 megawatts, provided by renewable energy developer NEFIN. The project was built in 2020, accounting for approximately 15% of Intel's global solar photovoltaic power generation capacity, and will reduce approximately 3,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The newly installed solar panels cover an area equivalent to 900 parking spaces and 50,208 square feet of building rooftops, and are expected to generate approximately 6,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year. Solar power generation can partially meet the local park's electricity needs during peak hours. This will also help diversify the park's electricity use and introduce renewable energy into the park's energy supply mix. Currently, the park is mainly powered by natural gas and coal.

“Intel is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its manufacturing facilities, and continued investment in alternative energy is a key step,” said Robin Martin, corporate vice president, general manager of assembly and test manufacturing and managing director of Intel Malaysia. “As a responsible corporate citizen, Intel’s use of renewable energy is a key part of our proactive efforts to protect the planet and is part of our RISE 2030 goal of achieving 100 percent renewable energy.”

The theme of this year's Earth Day is "Repairing Our Planet". Intel reaffirms its commitment to energy conservation and expanding renewable energy projects and energy-saving technologies to help combat climate change. Intel has deployed multiple solar heating systems to supply hot water to all its campuses in Malaysia, and will continue to expand the use of clean green energy to reduce carbon emissions.
