[January 24, 2024, Munich, Germany] With the increasing popularity of USB-C Power Delivery (PD) charging technology, the demand for highly compatible chargers in the entire consumer market is also increasing. Today, users demand adapters that are both powerful and compact. The secondary-side controlled ZVS flyback converter chipset EZ-PD™ PAG2 from Infineon Technologies AG meets this need. The chipset consists of two different models, EZ-PD PAG2P and EZ-PD PAG2S, integrating USB PD, synchronous rectifier and PWM controller. It ensures efficient communication and isolation between the primary and secondary sides using the pulse-to-edge converter (PET) CYPET121. The product improves efficiency by supporting innovative non-complementary active clamped flyback (NCP-ACF) and zero-voltage switching quasi-resonant flyback (QR-ZVS) topologies for energy-efficient USB-C adapters, Charger and travel adapter.
EZ-PD_PAG2
The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipset provides a versatile, efficient power delivery solution for a variety of applications. The chipset supports PD 3.1 standard power range (SPR) with programmable power supply (PPS) as well as extended power range (EPR) of 28V for fast and reliable charging. At the same time, the chipset is suitable for various powers, is compatible with charging protocols such as BC v1.2, AFC, Apple charging and QC5.0, and supports universal AC line input from 90 VAC to 265 VAC, improving the global popularity of this semiconductor device. availability.
The product implements programmable soft-start using an external SS capacitor, with controlled power-up, Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM), Critical Conduction Mode (CrCM) and Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) as well as bursts for different load conditions. hair and jump modes. This adaptability makes it ideal for charging equipment and devices in different regions. The features of the EZ-PD PAG2 series chipset ensure efficient and flexible power management to meet various needs.
The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipsets include four dedicated products:
• The secondary side ACF controller EZ-PD PAG2S-AC has efficient energy recovery and USB-PD protocol functions.
• Another ZVS controller, EZ-PD PAG2S-QZ, mainly adopts QR-ZVS flyback architecture and has USB-PD protocol function.
• The primary-side high-voltage start-up controller EZ-PD PAG2P integrates various functions that can improve system performance, including high-voltage start-up, PET receiver, gate driver and fault protection. The EZ-PD PAG2P also features an x-capacitor discharge function and a Vcc boost converter.
• USB PD controller EZ-PD PAG2S-PS with integrated synchronous rectification (SR) can be paired with third-party pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers. It features a shunt regulator that enables constant voltage and constant current control via an optocoupler. This controller has best-in-class SR performance and fast turn-on/off times, and supports volt-second integration to prevent false SR turn-on.
Availability
The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipsets are now available. EZ-PD PAG2S-QZ and EZ-PD PAG2S-AC are available in a 32-pin QFN package, while EZ-PD PAG2S-PS is available in a 32-pin QFN package and a 24-pin SOIC package. EZ-PD PAG2P is available in non-x capacitor discharge mode and x capacitor discharge mode versions, both in 14-pin SOIC packages.
