The advent of the 5G era has fundamentally overturned the existing traditional communication methods. It has accelerated the rapid integration of real society and Internet space, and has brought the interaction between people and machines to a new level. An important goal of developing 5G is to save energy and reduce system costs while increasing the information transmission rate and reducing latency. With the increasing demand for large-scale coverage of 5G signals, the construction of a large number of 5G base stations is imminent, which is bound to bring new opportunities to the power supply market. In line with this trend, WPG World Peace has launched a 5G base station power supply solution based on the ON Semiconductor FAN65008B synchronous buck IC.

ON Semiconductor's FAN65008B is a high-performance synchronous PWM buck regulator that integrates high-side and low-side power MOSFETs, supports a wide voltage range from 4.5V to 65V, and can handle continuous currents of up to 10A . In addition, ON Semiconductor's PowerTrench MOSFET process and industry-leading packaging technology integrate the FAN65008B in a quad flat no-lead (PQFN) package, which can provide extremely low parasitic effects on the power path, allowing developers to achieve 98.5% peak energy efficiency. This means that using the FAN65008B has lower ringing and lower electromagnetic interference (EMI) than using an external MOSFET. In addition to the above features, the FAN65008B also has adjustable overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, overvoltage protection, and short-circuit protection to protect the device itself and any downstream circuits from damage.

With the rapid development of 5G technology, base station power supplies must take into account the needs of low cost, high energy efficiency, and convenient, simple and rapid deployment. The 5G base station power supply solution launched by WPG World Peace and Onsemi is optimized for market pain points, which can meet industry needs and help promote the rapid advancement of 5G base station construction.
